The Sacred Pause is an invitation to rest and let the masks fall away for a bit …
It is an invitation to breathe out and be as you are, no matter how messy. Life can hurt sometimes and we don’t have to put a brave face on. Sometimes it helps to drop the armour and show people our tender spaces. It is no small thing to let people see us, and letting people see us can help us all feel a little less lost and lonely.
Here, we are treading the off-beat path. We’re in the deep dark woods, stumbling over stones, falling to our knees, digging for golden bones. Here, we use poems as doorways into our Writing Unfettered practise. The poems help open us up to our wild underbelly. They help us bypass the beastly critical mind that has us believe we are less than, we are not enough, we’re no good.
Here we are practicing the art of radical self-acceptance. We are tasked with saying “yes!” to the words and feelings and story-threads coming through us. Despite our mind’s objections. We are tasked with meeting ourselves as honestly as we can on the page, using the details of our lives to tell a deeper story. This is not a craft and grammar practice, as my Wild Writing teacher, Laurie, says. In my experience, Writing Unfettered is a gentle, liberating process of self-discovery, reclamation, integration, transformation.
